Q: What application requirements do I need in order to use SafeLearn
products?


A: Basic Requirements

  • Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP
  • Explorer 6.0 or Netscape 7+
  • Flash Player 7
  • Pentium II with 128 MB Ram
  • Screen resolution of 800 X600 or above
  • Sound Card and headset/Speakers for optional audio
  • 56K modem connection or better
  • Not MAC compatible but can request to investigate options

Q: Do I have access to the same resources as you have in the classroom-based training?

A:  Yes.  In addition to the delivery online of the SafeLearn Certification Part I course, you will also receive a package of printed resource materials including copies of the Customized Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, WHMIS: A Guide to the Legislation, a Guide to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and a Guide for Joint Health & Safety Committees and Representatives in the Workplace.

SafeLearn also provides access to expert content support via email and access to your fellow students through our online bulletin boards

Q: How long does it take to complete the SafeLearn course?

ASafeLearn Certification Part I takes between 12 and 18 hours to complete from start to finish, depending on the individual learner. The system automatically "bookmarks" and records your course progress so you can complete sessions at your own schedule and return exactly where you left off.

Q: How much time do I have to complete the course and the exam?

A:   A SafeLearn license is good for 1 year from the date of purchase. Once you first logon as a learner, you have two months to complete the course. If you fail to complete the course within the two month window you must reapply to reactivate your account.  The exam itself takes 2 hours and is timed.  You cannot pause or quit the exam before completion so please allow yourself enough scheduled time to finish. Though you are required to complete the course in 2 months, you will be able to access it for reference purposes for a total of 6 months from the date you begin.

Q: What if I do not pass the course?

AYou cannot, at this time, retake the test online.  Your test results are forwarded automatically to the WSIB. If you do not pass, the WSIB will contact you directly to rewrite the exam (this may take 4-6 weeks). Please note that the OSSA does not have access to your status with the WSIB.

Q: How do I receive my Certification?

AOnce you complete the exam, SafeLearn will return your mark immediately and you will know if you have passed.  If you have achieved a passing mark, the WSIB will mail your certificate to the address you listed on your registration form (Please note: this process generally takes between 3 to 6 weeks).  Remember, you are not fully certified until you have completed both Certification Part I and Certification Part II.

Q: Is the SafeLearn Certification Part I course recognized by the WSIB?

A: Yes. The SafeLearn course addresses all learning objectives set out by the WSIB and has received their approval.

 Q: How much does the course cost?

A: The price per license (each learner must have their own license) varies depending on the number purchased. See our “Pricing” page under “SafeLearn Advantage” on this website.

 

Q: Will the WSIB know I’ve completed the Certification Part I course?

A: Yes. When you complete the final certification test online, the results are sent directly to the WSIB.

 

Q: Can I sign up multiple employees to take the course?

A: Yes. You will need to sign up a company administrator who can then purchase multiple licenses online and oversee the progress of the employees taking the course. Please see the Administrator’s Guide for further information.

 

Q: How do I become a company administrator?

A: Please call us to have an administrator account set up.

 

Q: Once I have a company administrator account, can I purchase additional licenses at a future date? 

A: Yes. Keep in mind that the price per license may be higher if you purchase them a few at a time versus all at once. Please see the Administrator’s Guide for further information.

 Q: If I am the company administrator, can I also take the SafeLearn course myself?

A: Yes, the company administrator can take the course too. You will need to set up a separate learner account (in addition to your administrator account) in order to take the course.

Q: I’d like to sign up an employee for a personal course but pay for it with my credit card. Does the name on the account profile have to match the credit card name?

A: No, the names do not need to match. It is important that the account profile reflects the name of the person who will take the course, not the name of the person who paid for it.

 

Q: Why am I getting a blank screen when I try to start the test (or pre-test)?

A: The tests are in pop-up windows. You may have a pop-up blocker on your computer that will need to be temporarily disabled to allow you to see the test.

Q: If only one employee from our company will be taking this course, do we need to set up a company administrator?

A: A single learner can buy a personal course. However, you can also set up a company administrator and purchase only one license. The advantages of setting up an administrator account include the ability to monitor the learner’s progress and the option to add more licenses easily in future.

Q: Can I pay by cheque instead of by credit card?

A: At this time only credit card purchases are accepted. In future it will be possible to pay by cheque.

Q: How can I get a receipt for the course?

A: A receipt will be mailed to you after the SafeLearn package is sent. You can also print of the order confirmation that is emailed to you after your online purchase.
