What is Certification?

SafeLearn can help make Certification training for your business easy and affordable.

 SafeLearn Certification Part I

Under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, businesses with 20 or more employees are responsible for:

  • Establishing a Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Designating and Certifying Two Committee Members

Basic Certification covers:

Steps to Certification

·       Health & Safety and the Law

·       Workplace Health & Safety

·       Joint Health & Safety Committees

·       Workplace Inspections

·       Accident Investigation

Upon completion of Part I, a Certification Test from the WSIB is required to be completed and Passed to move on to Certification II training

In Step 2, the employer assesses the hazards in their workplace. JHSC members must be trained on all significant hazards.

Certification Part II trains employees on how to Recognize, Assess, and Control the hazards the employer has assessed as significant, and most likely to cause illness or injury in your workplace.

Once trained on Recognizing, Assessing, and Controlling hazards, the JHSC members will create action plans for implementing controls in the workplace.

When you have completed Certification II training on hazards, create an Action Plan and have your employer file it.

Submit Form 3189A to the WSIB. They will send you a card that confirms your Health & Safety Certification.

Certification Training is a legal requirement under Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act. {Section 9 (12)}. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) establishes the standards for certification training and all Basic programs must cover the learning objectives outlined in the Certification Training Program Standards.
